So, I made a few resolutions for 2008. I feel pretty happy about everything and think the changes are actually something I can accomplish. This always helps as I am a checklist kind of person. First thing, I really want to get more organized this year. I want my house to have order and hopefully that will bleed over into my life outside of home. I will be starting more craft projects to help accomplish this. Tonight I finished my first one and spent the evening organizing my jewelry and closet. My closet is almost done as well. I have hopes to get a nice lantern style light overhead. This is what I have done so far.

It has taken me a while to recover from this evening in order to write a blog. Seriously. You see, Jared and I have our favorite little restaurant in town and they have delicious sushi. Aside from good sushi, they have an amazing waitress named Natalie. The main reason we kept coming back is because of her. For the last 2 to 3 years, Jared and I have enjoyed birthdays, anniversaries, special dinners with friends, etc. all with Natalie as our waitress. She even waited on us the first night we put in an offer on our “dream house” (which later fell through). Natalie’s birthdate is December 23rd, also my mom’s birthday. For over a month, we planned on going to dinner, bringing her a cupcake, and sharing her birthday with her.

So…the 23rd rolled around. We inlisted Adam to join us and headed over to dinner, cupcake in hand and topped with a large red bow. We arrive at the hostest stand and say “party of three, Natalie’s section please” to which we received a not so welcoming reception. Natalie had been fired. “WHAT?! Excused me,” I thought. “Do they know how good of a waitress she is? And it’s the holidays AND it’s her birthday! Let me speak to the manager…”

We almost made a b line to the door until we decided, we kind of still want sushi. So, we ordered from a nice girl named Monica and quickly got to supposed scoop. Apparently, she had been taking a little extra tips from the debit card machines. Oh my. I find the story a bit hard to believe but she did mention she had a family in China she was sending money to. Goodness. Sushi will never be the same again.

New Years 2007! We celebrated a quiet evening with a delicious meal prepared by Leslie Beckers. What a sweetheart. After full stomaches and a game of poker (Leslie won), we ran over to the Jones’ for the last two hours of the evening. Here are some shots of the night. As you can see, some of us had a better New Years than others.

On Saturday afternoon, we continued out “get to know Louisiana” tour with Lauren. After a long shut eye, we arose from bed and traveled down to New Orleans. Jared and I have a weird love for NOLA so we are always excited to visit. Our first stop was at Jackson Square. On the weekends, you can be sure that you will see a set of performers entertaining a large crowed and raking in the cash and Saturday was no exception. The three gentlemen performing easily brought in a few hundred for the one show we saw. As we ate at Cafe du Monde across the street, we sat around speculating how much we thought they were making and we realized, its not too bad. Plus we saw them leaving in a brand new F-150, so I think they are doing just fine.

Cafe du Monde was very busy but we did have a chance to enjoy some hot chocolate, cafe au lait for Jared, and some beignets. Delicious. Aside from the noise of he crowed, two women plaed over a small amliphier with their banjo and electric vioin. They were so talented and the music was beautiful. However, it was obvious they lived on the streets and this began another set of speculations altogether. Next time we go, I’m going to record some of the music and maybe I’ll get up the guts to pull up a chair and hear their stories.

I spent the week in our new Lafayette office, mostly on my own. Each day I tried to soak in the quite and take full advantage of the few distractions. It was a nice week to be working and I believe I put it to good use. Goodbye little lull – I know next week we will be back to normal.

Merry Christmas! We spent the last two days with the Hornsby family at Ken & Wanda’s house and enjoyed getting to spend time with everyone, especially Jared’s nieces. After lots of good food, conversation and sleeping by the fire, Christmas has come and gone. On to the new year we go!

Christmas Eve! Ever since I can remember, my family has exchanged pajama’s on Christmas Eve. All of the kids would open their PJ’s in the evening and quickly change for bed in anticipation of the next morning. Since Jared and I have been married, he has been good at continuing this tradition. Here is a peak of our Christmas PJ’s this year.

Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I think a lot of people feel this way. I love the cool air, a warm fire, and the jingle bells our dogs wear on their collars. Time with family always seems more valuable than ever and I love every moment of being together. I hope you feel the same and that your Christmas is blessed with love and warmth this year. My favorite Christmas album of the year is Over the Rhine’s “Snow Angels”. Jared gave it to me as an early Christmas gift and I haven’t stopped listening to it. I happen to have a special place in my heart for Over the Rhine as I walked down the isle to the song “Rhapsodie” sung by Michelle Patterson. You can check them out here.

Jared’s office does a White Elephant Christmas Gift Exchange every year. We have exchanged such gifts as the margarita bowl, a jumbo working remote control and a fish head salt and pepper set. However, this year was the oddest gift of all. I received a dancing, singing and talking Hilary Clinton doll. At 20 inches tall, this thing is a little scary.

Exactly what do I do with this?
